What to know before choosing

Feature compatibility, product terms, usage limits and charges should be checked for the exact provider and subscription tier.

Backtesting software applies rules to past price data, while manual replay gives practice in making decisions as historical markets unfold. Some tools support both, but capabilities and historical feeds need to be checked individually.

Simulated trading results depend on fees, slippage, look-ahead bias and the way orders are filled. A profitable historical result does not prove that the same outcome is possible in the market today.

Historical data quality

Confirm which markets, tick histories, sessions, corporate actions and exchange feeds are covered.

Execution realism

Check spread, commission, slippage, order type and partial-fill modelling rather than trusting chart-touch fills.

Research workflow

Compare repeatable tests, saved parameters, out-of-sample analysis, replay speed and exporting results.
